| Garrett Warhurst grew up being involved in all kinds of sports with perhaps his greatest love being baseball. Garrett loved the competition, savored the victories but perhaps most enjoyed being a teammate. To honor and perpetuate Garrett’s memory a memorial scholarship fund has been established where each year one or more deserving soon to be college freshmen who participate in the Johnson County 3 & 2 Baseball sports league will be awarded a $1000 scholarship.
Memories of Garrett from several teammates and friends include:
....... “He was my first, and will always be my best friend”
.….. “I will always remember Garrett as the lively, hilarious, and loveable individual he was.....…..and I am eternally grateful for having had the privilege of knowing and loving John Garrett Warhurst”
…... “Garrett will always live on in my memories as having a one of a kind sense of humor, but more importantly he will be remembered as a good friend and a good person”
….. “Garrett was that kid at school that no matter the situation he had a smile on his face…..…..His spirit will live on forever”
….. “Growing up with you, there was never a dull moment. The memories are forever engraved in my mind with joy”
….. “I loved him like a brother and I’m going to miss him so much. I am so lucky to have had Garrett in my life”
….. “I can still remember ..... how you made us all laugh till we cried. You always seemed to turn any situation into a positive one. You brought laughter and smiles to the people around you”
….. “I won’t forget how you were one of my first friends ….. you were one of the more selfless individuals I have had the pleasure to know”
….. “I have so many memories of Garrett ….. when all of our lives were simple, but yet so meaningful. When the bonds of best friends were first made…… It was so fun being so young, wild and free with Garrett”
….. “I’ve met many people in my life but ….. no one more loving and hilarious. I’m so glad to have known Garrett and experience everything that I have with him…”
.....“No matter what I was going through, or how down I was you would always get me grinning like the village idiot and laughing like a child without even trying. Being near you I felt the most radiant energy; sincere, positive, and full of life. Your smile is probably the greatest smile to ever be smiled. You were so caring and full of love I’m surprised a heart so big can fit in a human body. I have always felt I could trust you with my life. There are no words that I know of that can even begin to describe the positive impact you’ve had on my life and so, so many others who were fortunate enough to be graced by your presence. I have never known someone that was loved by so many; social groups had no effect on your loving reach into all who were around you. You were, are, and forever will be one of my closest, dearest, and best friends. I love you with all of my being and will carry you in my heart and mind until the day I die.” If you care to make a contribution to honor Garrett's memory, please click here.
